The challenge
Cohere is one of Canada's largest AI companies, and after seven years of rapid growth, its legal function has had to scale at the same pace as the business — inside a highly competitive, uncertain space where the regulatory and product roadmaps both move at exponential pace.
In a busy quarter, that pressure compounds: parental leaves, commercial and vendor work that still needs senior judgment, and specialist questions in privacy, AI, and employment that can't wait for a six-month search.
The brief to 鶹Ƶ was capacity with context — lawyers who could join Slack, learn the playbooks, and keep work moving alongside the in-house team, not hand matters off to a firm that needed weeks to ramp up.
